Christmas Bullet Journal

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! I'm am so excited about this bullet journal class. I will show you how to create a simple cover for your dot/bullet Traveler's notebook. We'll draw all sorts of Christmas things. There will be videos from me drawing and show you how to use lettering in a creative way.
This class is more about documenting, drawing, and doodling. The mugs below is just an example of the type of drawings we will be doing.
We will be working inside and creating from prompts that I give you. Christmas is a time that should be cherished and to slow down a little. There is nothing more grounding than planning and creating art during this stressful time. Making time for art during busy times of year will not  only ground and allow for mindfulness but it will also enrich your season as you celebrate the holidays. Let's slow down a bit. Let's remember and document all our Christmas plans and lists. I believe by doing so, you'll be more productive (and all the while.....less stressed).

  • Class begins November 25, 2019
  • 11 videos total
  • lettering
  • doodles
  • girl sitting
  • we will be using mainly  tombow dual brush marker and watercolor pencils
  • EARLY Registration: $45 through November 20th
  • LIFETIME ACCESS
  • Guest Artist - John Rush
  • private classroom for sharing your art with other members as well as get feedback from me. Through January 31, 2020. After that time, it will become self paced.
  • If we have 50 or more students there will be a private Facebook group.

FAQ:
Is this class beginner friendly ?  YES! This class is geared towards all levels of artists. It is a great class if you are looking to widen your library of Christmas imagery.
How long will I have access to the course? Lifetime access. Videos are downloadable
How many art supplies will I need? You definitely can use what you have on hand and whatever media you prefer. I chose markers and watercolor pencils for the ease of use during the holiday season. This allows for quick access to creating. (no paint palette preparation needed)
Will there be a Facebook group? Yes, if we get 50 or more students there will be a private FB group. I want us to share and cheer each other on. I will have a FB group to gather and share our work!
Can I receive a refund ? Due to password sensitivities, I cannot offer refunds  once you sign up.

Secret Garden using tombow markers and colored pencils

I've been experimenting with my tombow markers again. I love that there are pastel and muted tones as well as bright, rich pigment colors. They pair nicely in floral artwork. The key to using both brights and pastel is to overlap when you can. I like to start light and work up to the brighter colors.
When everything is dry, you can keep adding marks with colored pencil and highlights with a gel pen.

Below are the step by steps:
The surprise red (neon pink) colored pencil is laid down in sketchy floral shapes.

Then, I began with the pastel tones and colored in round, floral shapes. I used the dark purple next.

Remember to color around some of the elements.

Activate your markers with water.
Allow to dry.

Then add more details with marker and colored pencil. I love layering like this!

And lastly, add highlights with a white gel pen.
These markers mix well with other materials. I also love layering with watercolor pencil!

And here is Secret Garden all finished!

Happy Halloween !! Frankenstein

Happy Halloween !!

Drawing a girl with Tombow markers and pencils

Simple Face using tombow markers and colored pencils

Today I wanted to share a simple girl and bird drawing using the Tombow Dual brush markers and the sepia colored pencil set. I love the combination of the smooth markers mixed with the yummy texture of the colored pencil.

Step-by-step process

I first started sketching out the face.
Think circle on top of a triangle

Then I drew a cute bird. Super easy circle and triangles again!
The body is a triangle and so is the tall.

I drew the eyes in with the burnt orange pencil....with a dot and a rainbow shape over the dot.

here is a short video of me working and building up color with colored pencil for the eyes and the sides of the face.

I took the reddish pencil and colored in the nose and lips.

I then, drew in some hair using the black, red, and orange pencil

I used a pastel purple tombow marker to build some depth near the eye area. Cool colors tend to make things recede into space so this allows for some rich dimension.

I then used a blending stump to smooth out the marks.

I used the coral tombow around the sides of the face and activated with water.
I did the same for the birdie.

here she is simple and sweet!

SPOOKY faces using tombow

I have really been enjoying playing with the Tombow dual brush markers and wanted to create a cute Spooky video and tutorial for you guys. I love the versatility and how creative you can get with these markers. If you love watercolor, you will love this markers. And if you love detail work, you can get very detailed. I love a mix of both. Watery blobs and then add detail on top!

Here is a video of the process as well:

The first thing to do is color some circles/blobs with the markers. I chose some fun Halloween inspired colors. See colors below.

Then I used a watercolor brush and added water to activate the color. You can reshape and edit as you go to follow where inspiration takes you. I wasn't sure what the faces were going to be initially (except for the witch).

I then added some detail lettering to the bottom of the page. I love adding "Tim Burton style" curls to the letters to give it a creepy touch.

I used a white gel pen to add in some tiny highlights and details

And here it is all finished!

here are the colors: 679, 603, 977, 873, N35, 158, 993, N57
You can order them individually over on Dick Blick

Holidays are a comin'

As it nears the end of October, it quickly reminds me that the holidays are upon us. As artists, it takes prep work and deciding what our Christmas crafts and journaling will look like. If you are in that mode (as I am), then I want to give your Arting some direction. I am offering my two past Christmas classes at HALF off!! Goodie Gumdrops is a travel journal class and Nutcracker dreams is a mixed media journal class. Think of Gumdrops as more small and portable (easy to take with you wherever you go. making lists and jotting down ideas as you prepare for the Christmas season.) And Nutcracker dreams is full on art journaling at its best.....inspired by the Nutcracker disney movie that came out last year.....full of lush scenery and sugarplums!

Originally $65....now they are $32.50 each. This price is good through Monday, November 4th.

Goodie Gumdrops - now only $32.50

Nutcracker Dreams - now only $32.50

I'M ON PATREON!!

I am super thrilled to announce I am now on Patreon!!

Patreon is a cool platform for artists to offer content to those patrons (that is you) who pledge to a tier. If you love Watercolor then the Watercolor Wallflower is your tier. If you love both watercolor and mixed media then hop into the Messy Inner Child. I love Patreon's versatility for offering different options for content.

Patreon allows me to interact with you more, and offer up things the main public will never see!

My family is fully supported from my art for the past year and a half. My husband (and biz partner) takes care of the accounting, Etsy shop, shipping, scanning, product designing and tons of other admin stuff. This really frees me up to create more art and more content for you! Your support means so so much to me....thank you, thank you!

I have a video to give you a peek into what I'll be offering!

Here is the first Messy Inner Child lesson:

And here are my cute illustrations for the tiers!! Just creating these cute drawings for the tiers was so much fun

If you love art supplies!

If you love watercolor!

If you like getting messy with acrylics and mixed media.

If you love original art, this is your tier!

Elf Magic open for registration!!

Are you ready for some Elf Magic?!
We will be drawing and sketching and painting with watercolors and acrylic paint.
I have loved painting these cute big eyed girls and just had to share this process. I have had fun experimenting too with my new favorite watercolors... the kuretake japanese 48 color palette. If you are looking to transition from acrylic to watercolor or wanting to experiment with watercolor, you will have fun with these. They layer beautifully with awesome coverage but you can also thin them with water and they act more like a traditional watercolor.

$39

I have a teaser video here :

Here is another elf we will be creating:

Elf girls

I have been drawing these cute big eyed girls lately. I've been having fun sketching on the couch at night while we watch tv. It keeps my hands busy....as I seem to get a bit antsy if my hands aren't moving (and online shopping can get old.... and expensive...lol!)

Here is the first Elf girl I drew:

The original is available in my big cartel shop

And I filmed the girl below and will be creating a class on these Elf girls
Registration will open soon!

a fresh change....

Do you love that feeling of change? Sometimes uncomfortable. Sometimes exciting. Sometimes a little bit of both.
I have been feeling this shift coming on and I really didn't know what direction it would lead me. Trusting that over time and with lots of work, I could grab hold a bit better. It's revealing itself.

I am listening.

I am feeling the need to draw more. To expand my library of imagery. To create mindful little things. Instead of "letting it happen". I am a lover of the happy accident, yes. But perhaps in another form.

Here I go with my change.
working with gouache, colored pencil, and watercolor.

I am unsure where this will go. But I'll be here listening and ready to go where He leads me.

here are some new happy's that I've been working on:
birds, cabins, kokeshi, pumpkin, owls, witches, lil kids

These are in my Big Cartel shop now
