Gumpy girl. And being afraid and doing it anyway.

Happy New Year ! For my first post of the new year, I thought I'd share a bit of my acrylic process with you. I love using the GAC100 medium from golden to tap in the paint with my finger. I've been doing this method for about 10 years or so. I always come back to it. I love the way it thins out paint and gives you luminous layers of shadow and light. I use a bit of green on the sides of the face as well as some Quin. nickel ago gold around the eyes and a very subtle shadow under the nose and lip.

I also got some new oil pastels called neopastels. These are the ones that stay creamy and don't activate with water. I love the child-like play and innocence I capture from using the pastels.

I've been feeling a strong pull to focus on my art process more. I absolutely adore teaching and I'm not stopping by any means. But this pull to explore more on my own and to focus on my craft has been louder than before. Do you feel these pulls as the New Year sets in? I would love to apply to craft and art shows locally but I'm a bit hesitant. It's all based on fear of failure of course. Sometimes it helps to speak these things out loud and then do it anyway. I saw a cute 6-ish year old girl waiting to ride a BIG roller coaster and she was so afraid. So I gave her a high five and I said something like, "you are afraid and doing it anyway!" Two of her friends were there cheering her on and I thought there could be something to learn here...... in art.....in life....in riding big roller coasters. Do you have something that you are afraid of? Are you making plans to do it anyway? And who can you count on to cheer you on?

Get out there and go ride that thing that scares you. It may be LOTS OF FUN!

happy happy Thursday, friends!
