New Watercolor draw and paint a girl

Watercolor is a swim in the metaphysics of life... a mirror of one's own character. Let it be unpredictable and colorful. (Anonymous)

I have a new Watercolor girl offering that includes a 9 page PDF with step-by-step instructions for how to draw and then watercolor a sweet girl. The PDF also includes a 36 minute video on this process. The curly headed girl above is the exact girl that I painted in the video.
We learn how to use color to bring depth and dimension in the face and why that works.

here are a few examples of the steps inside the pdf:

Supplies:
Color shaper size 6 soft flat chisel (optional) or Dina Wakley tools
Canson cold pressed paper: I used 4x6 size

Fairy GodMother!

We are just back from Florida and WDW and I just had to share my experience with the stunning Fairy GodMother...!! For some reason, I have always been nervous to meet characters that can speak back to you (i.e. not wearing a mask). So I never really met any of those. silly I know! But I just adore FGM and my dear friend Trista had gifted me these beautiful FGM ears and I knew that I must meet her. I told my husband I was so nervous but as soon as she opened up her arms and welcomed me with the best hug in the world, my nervousness fell away. I think that's what Fairy godmothers do, they make you feel like the prettiest, most loved person in the world. And she did! Here are some pics from my conversation.
And I just had to journal about it. I wanted to capture every word she said to me inside so I wouldn't forget!

I got 3 total hugs!!

Frilly Dancer - new class

Lately I have been going through a bit of a rut with my watercolors. It's just that I want more I suppose....I am so used to layering with acrylic paint that I was feeling a bit lost in my watercolor practice. I began to experiment with layering watercolors, gesso, chalk pastel, and ink sprays and what happened were these gorgeous organic shaped dancer girls. I love the flowing, frilly, organic shapes of the dress.
This expressive class will help you open up to the possibilities that come with watercoloring. I love to watercolor but I sometimes think something is missing. I want more layers and juicy textures and splatters. Let's expand those feelings and let go of the "right way" for watercolor. We will celebrate the delicious organic and flowing shape of the dress. We will not worry about perfection. I take you through the drawing phase all the way to then end talking you through each tiny movement.
Here is the class info at a glance:
  • 7 total videos: flower on kraft paper, frilly dancer girl, princess in a white gown on kraft paper, watercolor and chalk girl portrait, flower fairy princess
  • bonus lesson - Tiny Dancer
  • early registration through April 30th - $50
  • regular registration begins May 1st - $65
  • class begins May 7th
  • lessons post: Mon, Tues, Fri

Dancer in my dreams

I have been painting these sweet dancer girls and have felt a renewed outpouring of creative energy. I woke up this morning with these girls on my mind and I can't wait to get into the studio to play some more. I have this girl in progress. so far only using gesso (for texture) and sprays to enhance and meander into the crevices of those beautiful textures.

I have a smaller dancer in my shop. Her name is Frilly.

I have been loving experimenting with watercolor and then (once dry) chalk pastel with detail accents.

Watercolors are from Designs by Rachel Beth
and then tanager by Pfeifer art supply
and a gorgeous color from limn watercolors called Caput Mortuum (this color is absolutely gorgeous!! it granulates beautifully into the paper and is the brown color you see. I use it in the hair/eyes, and here I've painted around the little flowers. so gorgeous!)

and book PRE-sale is coming soon!
