Elf girls

I have been drawing these cute big eyed girls lately. I've been having fun sketching on the couch at night while we watch tv. It keeps my hands busy....as I seem to get a bit antsy if my hands aren't moving (and online shopping can get old.... and expensive...lol!)

Here is the first Elf girl I drew:

The original is available in my big cartel shop

And I filmed the girl below and will be creating a class on these Elf girls
Registration will open soon!

a fresh change....

Do you love that feeling of change? Sometimes uncomfortable. Sometimes exciting. Sometimes a little bit of both.
I have been feeling this shift coming on and I really didn't know what direction it would lead me. Trusting that over time and with lots of work, I could grab hold a bit better. It's revealing itself.

I am listening.

I am feeling the need to draw more. To expand my library of imagery. To create mindful little things. Instead of "letting it happen". I am a lover of the happy accident, yes. But perhaps in another form.

Here I go with my change.
working with gouache, colored pencil, and watercolor.

I am unsure where this will go. But I'll be here listening and ready to go where He leads me.

here are some new happy's that I've been working on:
birds, cabins, kokeshi, pumpkin, owls, witches, lil kids

These are in my Big Cartel shop now

Campfire and Wonder Wander Journaling

I remember camping a lot as a kid. Like every weekend when I went home with my Dad. I loved the camping part but I will say lots and lots of work. My favorite times, were when me and my Dad would get up early before everyone else and go fishing. Just him and me and the early morning breeze off the lake. Such good times.

I created this darling Campfire girl piece for a new class by Trista Hertz and her Wonder Wander journaling online class. I am one of her guest artists for her Fall series of lessons! I used the Jane Davenport watercolor set as well as some Watercolor pencils. I would love if you joined us over at Trista's class that begins soon. Let's celebrate my favorite time of year! Time for sweaters, pumpkin spice latte, and the sound of the crickets chirping under the stars.

Gouache journaling process video

I have been having a blast painting with gouache lately! If you've been following me for a while, then you probably know that I LOVE and admire Mary Blair's artwork. Her main medium was gouache (or as its often known as "opaque watercolor"). So when I paint with gouache, I love painting inspired from her little creations. I love her book illustrations the most. UP and Down book is my absolute favorite. The illustrations are so simple and perfect.

I have a sweet process video for you below:

More classes being retired....!!

I am retiring more classes!! I just feel like making room for new is in the air. I love new beginnings...new inspiration.
Here are some FAQs about retiring classes:

You are retiring these classes, does that mean I won't have access to these once retired? Absolutely NOT. Once you sign up, these classes are yours and you won't lose access.

How long will these classes be offered at the Retirement sale price? I plan on offering these retirement prices through the end of 2019. I may extend that through 2020 if I see some interest continue.

How long will I have access to the classes once I sign up? You get lifetime access to the course content. You are also welcome to download any content. (you would even get access if I decide to move platforms. which is a possibility.) They will remain in your library when you sign into your Ruzuku account.

Do you offer support, critiques, etc on these retired classes? I'm so sorry, but no I won't be able to offer support on these classes. These are considered self work and are no longer monitored.

All good things must come to an end.....

After a full, fun year of watercolor.... 80 videos of girls, animals, flowers, food.... I have decided to close the chapter of the Watercolor Club. I like to think of endings of new beginnings full of possibility! I think there is a freshness to beginning again. This shift comes after being led here and listening. After the 3rd prompting, I knew it was time. To continue would be an "easier" route, but I feel I must listen to where Spirit leads me. So here we are at the end of a fantastic year of creating in our journals. I thought I'd do a short video of me going through my journal and all the projects and lessons. If you joined in, a HUGE thank you! If you haven't joined in and are just finding out about it, I do have a lifetime access class of ALL of the content! If you do the calculations, that is around $2.36 for each video. Such a great deal and you get lifetime access to work at your own pace.

Art Ruin

ART RUIN!
 let's ruin some art!

I have been ruining lots of art lately. This ruin process takes me further and stretches my creative muscles. Do I fail and ruin when I could have left it alone? Sure, but I am trying to work through my fear of "ruining it" and "spending all this time on something". Art is about the process. It is about going on and ruining something. Then go further. I hope you enjoy this process video.

This video is offered in real time in my Watercolor Club Year 1 class available August 1st.

My Heart in Hand

I am realizing, through deep talks with a great friend @tangiebaxter that creating art and sharing it is a very vulnerable thing. I wasn’t really aware that my girls hold such wisdom and fragility. My adult self is scared to death of everything this life throws at me. And yet the child inside has impenetrable belief in this path I’m on. And through words and color, I am my most truest self.
Thank you Tangie for your wisdom

Tender

What do you do when you suffer from burnout with your art? I know that I cannot NOT create for more than a couple days (kinda like my medicine/therapy for mental health) so I need to find something to get my hands moving. I have been doodling on the couch lately and that is super helpful. Someone on instagram suggested that I try rock painting. What a fantastic idea! I love it! Now off to find rocks.

Tender is your soul.
Tender is your child self.
Wherever you go i'll follow you home.
Your color is orange and fuchsia
biting the stars and swallowing the moon glow.
You lay atop the waters dark.
The subtly of your unspoken pictures and words leave me in your presence.
Your Stillness.
Loudly spoken without a sound.

Find Your Girl

One of the things I hear most is "how do I find my style?".  It's a hard question to answer and there is really no one way. Mine was found through happy accidents and showing up and painting every day. But how can I teach one to go in the direction of finding your style?? I think this will certainly help! It lies in basic structure, following "rules" and then breaking those rules. It's about mixing and matching what you like about all the different ways and shapes you put on the paper.

Join me as we Find Your Girl by using simple materials. We will first design and sketch different head shapes and features. We will then creatively mix the styles to come up with a darling face. Viola, a new style!

  • Class begins June 17th
  • 8 videos - (76 minutes of real time creating)
  • acrylic based
  • downloadable 8 page PDF of class material with face construction chart
  • covers basic face, pencil work, different skin tones, and face structure
  • final video covers blending the styles into one new style!
  • Early Registration through June 1st: $35
  • Regular registration begins June 2nd: $45
  • Art club members: $15 (this is THE best deal and the biggest savings for you!)
  • LIFETIME ACCESS
  • private classroom for sharing your art with other members as well as get feedback from me (until the class moves to self work at the end of July)

There is something about experimenting with simple supplies that can spur your creativity. Simple supplies teach us because they don't weigh us down with "all the supply things"....!! Sometimes all the supply options can be overwhelming. Like "where do I even begin". And if you are weighed down with too many things and options, then you may be inclined to feel stifled or worse yet, not even begin.

FAQ:

Is this class beginner friendly ?   This class is geared towards all levels of artists. If you are looking to develop your style, portrait/girl wise then you might consider this. If you are someone looking to begin your art journey of faces/girls, then this class is for you as well. A great place to start and expanding your voice/style.
How long will I have access to the course? Lifetime access. Videos are downloadable
How many art supplies will I need? I've kept the supply list super simple and short. The paints should be readily available in your local hobby lobby or on amazon. The rainbow pencils are optional.
Will there be a Facebook group? No sorry. we will share in the classroom and through instagram.
Can I receive a refund ? Due to password sensitivities, I cannot offer refunds  once you sign up.

Rustic Blooms !

Are you wanting to paint Flowers with rich, rustic textures?! I wanted to paint flowers but I was at a loss at how to make them childlike and very raw. So I brought out my palette knife and started layering. I'll take you through my process of painting Imaginary, rustic blooms. We will learn in ways of using up paint and without overthinking the process. My goal is to work with exaggerated shapes and unexpected colors. We will NOT be working from reference photos so get ready to let your imagination run like a 3 year old down Main Street at the Magic Kingdom.
Class at a glance:

flowers, Mushrooms and time lapse video

January is a time for new beginnings.
We celebrate flowers in the Art club all month.
Flowers represent growth, evolving, and hope.
Delicate
Living and letting go
and bursting forth with LIFE again

As we transition in February, I thought we'd focus on mushrooms with a minimal color palette.
I love how the testing page turned into a page that I really like. Reminds me of super quick notes out in the field.
very loose.
mindless.

I have a new time lapse video ready for you.
lots of texture and honoring my inner child.
