Disney Cruise Sketchbook

I also took my sketchbook on our Disney cruise. I used the same one as I did two years ago. I love that the ship as these "Learn to Draw" sessions. They aren't as in depth as the Animation academy classes at Disney World or California Adventure but still fun. They have a host and the host puts up a white board with 5-6 step outs of the character and then they show a video of an illustrator. I think his name is Ron Lot. The only issue is the angles and you can see the detail as well as the down facing camera that they have on the animation academy illustrators. So you kinda have to fill in the blanks a little. But I need to go off in my own direction a bit anyways.
The host tells us to take pictures of the illustrations of the characters that are floating around us on the screens so I take a photo of pinnochio and draw him later.

I highly recommend the Fantasy! In most ways, it was better than the Wish. The restaurants had great food but the theming of the restaurants was better on the Wish. We loved the Europa themed lounges.... Ooh, La La- a French champagne themed lounge. The tube, a London lounge themed lounge and they even had areas where you could sit that looked just like you were on the subway. O'Gills Irish pub. We watched a couple basketball games there. And then La Piazza, a carousel themed entryway lounge that served as a hub for entering the other lounges.
The adult only section of the ship was 10 times bigger than that of the Wish. So a huge plus for us to sit up top and soak in the sun and just lay and draw and read.

There was a craft of make your own Forky and decided I needed to draw him in my sketchbook.

There is a ton of art on the walls. Going down the stairs on each floor, outside of the theater like this Muppet Call board. I love the Mary Blair Alice artwork that was on our "aft" side of the ship.

Disney Cruise Junk Journal!

We just returned from a lovely 4 night Disney cruise aboard the Fantasy. Luckily we had outstanding weather with only the last night being frigid from the strong cold front. We had never been to Lookout Cay at Lighthouse point. The facilities on the island are easy to navigate and a huge step up from Castaway Cay. The picnic tables are even easy entry, which I truly appreciate. They really thought of everything. We lounged on the beach, fruity drink in hand and hiked the nature trail to the rustic Lighthouse.

I brought both my sketchbook and junk journal. If you decide to do a Disney cruise and you love junk journaling, there are so many opportunities like the memory keeping activity. You can also grab napkins and small bits of ephemera as well as stickers. They even had a passport activity where you could glue down printables that the ship provided. So above is just my junk journal. I cut out some pages that were provided and kinda did my own thing. I will post again with my sketches.

here are a couple photos from Lookout Cay!

When you disembark the ship, you are met with a 1/2 mile pier. It’s not as bad as it looks, I promise. Plus I needed to stretch my legs a bit and move around. Lots of sitting and lounging….so I was ready. The pier is designed this way to protect the coral and marine life that surrounds the island. This island seemed more exotic and more flora and fauna than Castaway Cay.

Tim’s Mickey Mouse in the Learn to Draw activity is just the cutest mouse I’ve ever seen. He’s so good following directions but also the style is all his own.

one of my favorite pages from my junk journal. I glued down the Tangled game background and cutout Rapunzel. And then drew my own lanterns inspired by the game page. so fun!
