New Original Artwork

Today I finished 3 small paintings inspired by childhood nostalgia. Where was your favorite clubhouse? Mine was always in nature. I traveled by bike and set up and walked across the stream on a log. It was the prettiest spot I'd ever seen. Years later I went back and of course the log was no longer there. So ephemeral. The bridge was new overhead. It wasn't the same.

Rainbow painted papers

Messy Unmessy - beginner course

Messy Unmessy is a great class for beginners. It is also a great class for anyone looking to loosen up. To be messy, you must first go through the stages of painting a face....learning where the features go. Learning color placement to achieve depth and dimension. Once you nail that part of the process down, you are ready to loosen up and get messy. You'll figure out what best suits your style and which one of the processes you enjoy the most. Or is it somewhere in between.....or messier or unmessier...????

Is this class beginner friendly ?  YES! This class is a fantastic first class from me. You'll get a look into my beginner face using acrylic paints and keeping things neat and tidy. This is to learn placement and color work. And then you'll see my messy process. The messy process is closer to my everyday painting process. 

How long will I have access to the course? Lifetime access. 

Do I need all the supplies on the supply list? No, I am all about using what you have on hand. 

Will there be a Facebook group? No sorry. we will share in the classroom and through instagram.

Paper Doll Playtime

I have a challenge for you! This Paper Doll Playtime printout is a chance to get creative and color. 

Follow these directions:

1. Print out sheet (card stock works great 8.5x11")
2. Color with colored pencil, marker or media of your choice
3. Cut out dolls and outfits
4. Fold tabs around doll

Join me in the historic Mabel Dodge Luhan House October 19-23rd, 2020 for 4 nights and 3 full days of creative time.  I’ll be leading you through painting exercises and break out demo’s each day. We will explore animals that speak to us as well as those we might encounter in magical Taos, NM. Diving into what it means to foster happy accidents by working quickly and channeling our inner child, we will scribble and enjoy the process, not worrying about the outcome. Creating is a part of the journey and every mark and “mistake” should be celebrated. Therein, lies the magic of the creative process. We will create with the mindset of what it means to be free to be YOU.

I have stayed at Mabel’s twice in the last several years and have dreamed of teaching there one day. Mabel’s is a place that holds a rich history of hosting artists and writers such as Willa Cather, Georgia O’Keefe, and Dennis Hopper. The food is incredible. The indescribable rich nostalgia grips at you. That is really the only way that I know how to describe this place.

Breakfasts and Lunches are included as well as one dinner on our last night. You will be on your own for dinner the other 3 nights. There are lots of great restaurants close to Mabel’s.

• Single occupancy - $1395  (private room with private bath)
• Double occupancy - $1295 (shared room) (a room that you’ll share with someone. If you happen to know another attendant that is coming, please let me know and we’ll put you together)    

• Private Room - payment plan $465 per month for 3 months
• Shared Room - payment plan $432 per month for 3 months

Registration after July 19th must be payment in full.

• lodging for 4 nights, 3 days at Mabel's
• 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches, and 1 dinner (the other dinner's will be on your own)

October 19-23rd, 2020

Times: 

• Arriving: Monday October 19th. We will meet at 5:00pm in the studio and get to know one another and afterwards we will have a fun snack/beverage gathering. Check-in is available after 3:00 pm. If you can, arrive the day before if possible so that you can relax and enjoy Mabel's. (the extra days before or after will need to be arranged with Mabel's by calling 575-751-9686)
• 9:30 am - 4:30 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
• Departing Friday 23rd - 10:30 am checkout (no breakfast this day)

If you would like to come a day or two earlier or stay later, then you’ll need to coordinate directly with Mabel’s.

Getting there: I fly into ABQ and rent a car. Taos is a beautiful 3 hour drive from ABQ. There are also options for a shuttle if you prefer not to drive.

*Cancellation policy:

Due to my contract with Mabel’s below is my cancellation policy for attendees:

• If you have to cancel before July 19th, you will receive a full refund minus $50
• If you cancel after July 19th, and I have someone on the waiting list to take your spot, you will receive a refund minus $150
• If we don’t have anyone on the waiting list and you cannot find someone to take your space, then unfortunately no refund will be given. 

Special note about Mabel’s: Mabel Dodge Luhan House is a retreat-style facility with no air-conditioning, televisions, alarm clocks or telephones. There is wi-fi only in the main living area.
