Happy Wednesday, friends! I hope the summer has been treating you well. We are having some intense heat (and humidity) here in Florida but we have the almost daily rain cooled evenings....so it's a nice reprieve from the heat.
I'm reading a new book from Howard White. He has worked with Nike for many years and mentors athletes. He's most known for mentoring Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley and is the head of the Jordan brand. I learned about him from the movie Air. Have you seen it? First off the soundtrack is incredible. If you are a child of the 80's, then the soundtrack alone is enough reason to watch the movie. Air is so nostalgic and inspiring! I love marketing strategy and it was a groundbreaking strategy back then. One of my favorite parts was the shoe they designed was not allowed. 51% of the shoe had to be white. Nike wanted to design the shoe around Michael specifically with red and black for the Bulls. "More Red!" But the NBA would fine them $5000. So what Nike said...."let's just pay the fines. make a commercial out of it. The NBA will fine Michael for being too colorful." Just brilliant! Now everyone wears colorful shoes and gets to express themselves and their brand. Anyways, the Howard White character is played by Chris Tucker. Such an outstanding performance. Funny! But also inspiring and very wise.
