Disney Journal Pages!

I'm back with another update from Disney. I wanted to share with you all the journal pages I created while we were there. It truly was a beautiful balance between experiencing the parks, savoring all the cherished moments with fellow creatives, and diving into your journal. I just had to show off the journals a bit too. The first picture is of the cover. Tangie's husband Dave created these beauties for each of the participants. By the way, if you really LOVE these journals…(I know I do) then you can get your very own HERE.

Disneyland map…..I taught a short class on how to create these lovely watercolor maps.
I drew this in the animation academy. I don't follow directions too well and drew her alongside steamboat Mickey….(below)

journaled this after we rode Haunted Mansion.
I am a bit obsessed with the bride with the hatchet. "till death do us part"…. :-)

another animation academy Alice which I colored with the peerless afterward.
another Alice….obsessed much?!?…lol

a neat page where I was cleaning off my brush….

by herself. She had a gorgeous fair complexion, a dark bob haircut with blue
streaks, and a bold red lipstick. I even saw her the next day as well.
I'm calling her a contemporary Snow White.

ps. After this retreat I am feeling a some sort of shift happening within me. I'm not sure I can define it at this moment. But regardless, it's there. I have decided to remove myself for the time being on Facebook. I'm not sure how long my absence will be.
This shift and the answers can only be found in stillness….in the quiet moments in the sun on my porch…..being with my poodles….and walks in nature, listening to the vast number of species of birds that our Creator put on the earth.
Being still. Being in my breathe. Being quiet. Being with my Lord. For there lie all the answers.

Disney Retreat

I am back and rested from the Disney Retreat.  I am so blessed and thankful that Tangie asked me to be a part of this amazing retreat. We had a great group of ladies, as well as my husband Tim and Tangie's husband Dave. The first day we met for Mexican food and chatted and really just got to know each other. Also, Tangie organized for us to meet later that evening at Californa Adventure lodge....where she presented us with the most beautiful and inspiring packets ever! Dave made all the journals that were constructed with watercolor paper and Disney golden book covers. In heaven. I wanted to do a twirl around the courtyard (like the little girl in a princess costume that I saw earlier that day....she twirled and twirled with no worries. She was just being. She didn't have a care in the world. And at that moment I believed she was the happiest person on the planet. And I was as well, witnessing that beauty of a child's wonder!)

And just allow me for a second to sing the praises of our leader and Disney expert extra-ordinaire, Tangie..... She had the best put-together itinerary for the 4 days that we were together. It was evident that she did her homework and went step-by-step through the park planning our days together and the time spent at each perfect journaling spot. I imagine her being lead by Tinker bell herself as she planned and created each and every detail.

I took lots of photos of our time together.
and psssst.....I hear we may be doing this again in October

Cindy and I waiting for the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.
This was the first ride we did as a group.
(check out the dude behind us…photobomb….lol!!)

I made this journal page shortly after the pirates ride over in the Saloon.
That's what I loved so much about this retreat is that you get a chance…and take the time to
journal while inspiration is fresh in your mind.

Teacups were closed for the evening because of the rain.
but it made for a wonderful shot.

2013 paintings

This is coming a little late. Here we are, well into January and I'm just now doing a review of 2013. I'm not really good at these reviews of the past year, but decided that if I could do a visual review of my work then it would be more fun. I am also reading Julia Cameron's Walking in this World and Sound of Paper and some of the exercises has you listing things that you are proud that you've done. I am happy that I created about this body of work, but I feel there is so much still inside me anxious to get out. I have work to do. It feels good. This brimming over with inspiration. A new well, so deep…..I am beyond blessed to paint. This journey has brought me closer to God. It's opened up new friendships…real ones. The ones where you get all giddy on the phone or lay talking till the wee hours of the night at an art retreat where you are bunking together. You can't sleep. You are beside yourself with happiness that you found this soul(s) that seems to get excited about the same things you do…..talking about your future…..your family….your fur-babies…..the dreams of traveling west….those. Oh how my eyes have been opened. I feel awake. I feel like ME….finally. And really like MORE me, than ever before.

It all started with that Divinely held Moon over the Pacific.

I found me

I found me
This day is shaped with such love.
I felt your warmth come over my being.
Intricate details revealed themselves to me in an instant.
The rain washes away the dust of the earth. But your light
shines 10 million times brighter than the sun. Yet I cannot look away.

My soul has always been. It's the true me. It's what embodies realness.
Something of the intangible but more tangible than the earthly realms
I trust in YOU.

I wish to go out on great waters. In your hands, I will not fail.
My faith takes on a newness. It's because you teach me.
You crack me open so that light enters and then grows.
I am all Yours. In your presence, I am more me.
That is where my soul dwells.
I have finally found You
and in doing so I found me.

Inspired by Rumi and scripture in Psalm 107: 23:
Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business on great waters, they see the works of the Lord, and His wonders in the deep.

Rumi: The wound is the place light enters you.

This day

This piece of writing is inspired by an account I had as a child at about the age of 8 and then at 32 years  of age.

This Day
This day is my present. My now which encompasses it all. His Glory glows in me - a spark.
Waiting to be Born. So that it can grow and sprinkle love and light.
This clarity feels pristine. Newness. Life's elixir. Breathe it in. Take hold. It's my forever being.
My essence that feels more real than my physical-ness. I am here to begin again. Stepping into new spectrums.

My child is my soul. She never grew up really. Nothing has changed except my outer shell.
I actually felt more me as a child. More connected to who I was. More sure of my destiny. Fearless.
See what beholds the Land. Create mountains and colored sky. Fly through the clouds. Burst upward.
Caress your spirit. Gently nudge it to create. Listen to your yearning. For this is our true nature.
How do we get back to that child? Tempt her with color...splashes of light.... nature's brilliance.

Whisper in her ear the music of art until she sings, making music from quietness - stillness. The grandest seas and land were but a vast nothing until God spoke.
Speak loudly your dreams, your wishes. And fly on the wings of a Butterfly. Enveloped in love.

The reference to wings of a butterfly is inspired by the account of Eben Alexander in his book Proof of Heaven.

Disney Land Retreat

Tangie and I are heading to DisneyLand in Anaheim in just over a month!! I can't wait to create and be inspired by the imagination of Walt himself. Did you know that Walt was told he lacked imagination as a child!?. (can't remember where I heard that, but he certainly proved them otherwise)... :-D

I am offering a giveaway for the ONLINE version of the DisneyLand retreat next month. If you want to find out more info to register go HERE.

To help us spread the word about the retreat, please share via social media (facebook, pinterest, twitter, instagram, etc) and come back here and leave a message. Please tell me your favorite disney character (for fun) and let me know how you shared. Giveaway will be announced next Wednesday, Jan 8th.
