Paper and Paint - Susana's new workshop

I am currently taking Susana's workshop, called Paper and Paint. I am having so much fun creating collage elements for my finished pieces. Susana is so real, gentle, sweet spirit. She has participated as a guest artist in two of my online classes and I'm so blessed for sharing her spirit and talents with my students. I truly feel we can teach but we must always, always remain a student. She has taught me so much. Thank you Susana for the light you shine. It is far reaching! You inspire me dear girl.

Imagine Play Emerge and giveaway

This July, I have a new online workshop that is sure to break you out of your rut. Every summer, I go through an art funk and I'm hoping to quell it or at least expect that it's coming so that I'll know how to deal with it properly. If the summer blues affects you too then I may have just the medicine…..Imagine Play Emerge. It is a class based on these 3 areas of the creative process…..

I do believe Imagination is first and foremost in the creative process but we must not stop there. We must play and make discoveries. We must let go and create from a place of child-like wonder. When we allow ourselves to just play and not remain "in our head" and "act too serious" then we allow for magic and divine blessings to enter in. We grab hold of these important tools and before you know it, we are emerging in self expression….we are shining a light so beautiful that others take notice. We begin creating from somewhere else besides the mind - the soul.
And as the cycle ends, it begins again.

Here is a sneak peek into more:

The details:
You will get 1 year classroom access from the date you sign up.
$75 early bird price through June 20th
$88 regular registration begins June 21st
Class material will be ready by July 1st
This is a self-paced workshop.
(no Facebook group this go 'round)

Mary Blair inspired "girl and bunny"

Some of the projects that we will be doing are:
  • Mary Blair inspired works
  • painting a girl in profile (learning how the old masters used color up against the face to shape and  really make the features stand out)
  • We'll be doing a girl that is heavily textured and how to use a catalyst blade along with oil pastels to distress the finish of the face.
  • a Winnie the Pooh bonus video
  • a Mary Blair handkerchief design piece
  • a sweet book illustration

Beach Work

A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I took some time away and went to the beach. The poodles had a blast walking on the beach. At first they were scared of the water lapping up onto their paws, but they adjusted quickly. We rented a small house that was pet friendly and it had a lovely fenced yard where we played fetch with Merlin and Sammy. They came back tired and happy. Us too!

Sunday Mornings

photo and design by my talented friend,  Kaitlin Monroe

I saw the words "No perfect people allowed" on a banner for a Church that we saw on the road to Galveston, Tx this past week and couldn't get it out of my head. We are all God's children even though NO ONE is perfect. Such a beautiful reminder.

When I began painting, I began a journey of growing closer to God. You see I've always believed but my relationship desperately waned and I certainly fell away from Him. I think I began to feel a sense of unworthiness. But what I know now is that none of us are worthy, but He loves us so much anyway! He sent His Son, Jesus to die on the cross so that we are no longer bound by sin. We are set Free!

You see, I truly feel that He gently drew me closer by calling art into my heart. The complexity and subtly that our Creator works is something to be in awe of.....

As I was in church one morning, I felt the calling to create a class all about my Sunday morning worship paintings. Normally what I do is attend early service Church and come home and paint till we have lunch. I want to share this time with you. Time spent praising God. I really think we can use our gifts to reach others. In doing so, we pass the light on to others….who then share their story.

For this class, I envision lifting each other up as we spend time creating as the Great Creator meant for us to do. When we allow ourselves to be vulnerable with God….to be vulnerable in spirit with others….we reach others easily. Gently. We open ourselves up to so much….to giving….to nurturing….to being still….to gratitude….to trust….and to faith. I imagine the magnitude of the lives you will touch with the art you will create. My prayer is that you become a vessel to reach and touch others lives with your art….gently….but with passion. To say things that cannot be expressed through words!

While pondering this class, I thought the only way to reach out in this way was to offer this class for free. I will open it up to donations if you feel called to give.

New work

Sometimes while I'm working in the studio, everything clicks easy....time seems to slip away....and I get lost in this sacred space of creating. Other times I feel a tad frustrated and irritable. I feel as though things aren't coming together as easily as it should. I wonder why that is? I guess it truly is just like life in general......some days you wake up and you can just feel it in your bones that it's going to be something very special about the day. Other days not so much!

Many times when I feel frustrated.....and continue to work....within minutes I can hit a breakthrough. I am reminded it doesn't have to always be easy....nor would I want it to. I must remind myself to embrace those moments. they are needed too. they are needed so that we can quiet them with charging onward. or by being still. art teaches me. art helps me to trust.

wherever you are.....welcome the struggle....a breakthrough is in order!
